Part of the college experience is meeting new people. Here at the University of Delaware, there is a very large and diverse student body. Over the past two classes, I was able to meet someone new. Nick is a freshman here at UD who is majoring in finance. Nick was born and raised in Long Island, New York along with his older brother and younger sister. The three of them live with their two parents and dog. Throughout his childhood, Nick played several sports including, soccer, basketball, and football. Similar to me, Nick stopped playing football and basketball by the time he got to high school, so he could focus only on playing soccer for both his high school and club teams. Even though he stopped playing football and basketball, he still follows the sports professionally, supporting his favorite teams, the Houston Rockets, and New York Giants. Today, Nick is a brother in UD’s Delta Chi fraternity chapter. In his free time, he enjoys going out and playing Xbox. Although we do have some differences, Nick and I have a lot in common and I am glad I had the opportunity to meet him.
A huge part of the college experience is getting out of your comfort zone and meeting new people. This is exactly what we did in Professor Freeman’s class. Nathan is currently a sophomore here at the University of Delaware and is majoring in Actuarial Science. When he was only 6 years old, he moved from Ghana to Orange, New Jersey for only one year and then moved to Middle town, Delaware, where he currently still lives. Since he is only 30 minutes away from campus, he commutes every day. Nate has a huge passion for soccer and loved the game since he was 4 years old. In 2018, Nate accomplished one of his top goals of which he dreamt of since he was a kid. He was selected for the Region 1 team. This team is very difficult to make and is a huge accomplishment in the soccer world. His favorite soccer team is Barcelona and his favorite player is Lionel Messi. Since he is a Barcelona fan, he despises Real Madrid. When Nate was younger, he had three dream professions. He wanted to be a doctor, professional soccer player, and a pastor all at the same time. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen, but he is currently very happy in pursuing his major. Nathan and I have a lot in common and I am very grateful that I had an opportunity to meet him.
Learning about someone upon meeting them for the first time can sometimes be a difficult task. This proved to be the case when I initially met Jack, but as time passed it became easier to get to know him. Jack is a Freshman Exercise Science major from Hillsborough, New Jersey. He currently works as a pharmacy technician, however this isn’t his intended end career goal. He is an aspiring athletic trainer and has been since he was a kid. Jack played soccer for most of his youth and played as a goalkeeper up until he entered high school. As the oldest child in his family, Jack has had to assume a lot of responsibility in his household. He has one younger brother, a mom, dad, and a cocker spaniel. Jack’s mother’s family is from the Boston area and as a result, Jack has grown up as a fan of most New England and Boston based sports teams. During the fall semester, Jack rushed a couple fraternities but unfortunately he had no bids. However, this didn’t seem to derail Jack’s college experience as he is still enjoying life here at UD. Although we have our differences, Jack and I also have some similarities and I’m glad we had the opportunity to meet.
