Mya lives very close to campus, but was actually born in Minnesota. Despite her close distance to home, she still misses her parents sometimes because they both travel for work. But her brother isn’t far away though, because he is a junior here. During high school, she enjoyed playing softball as an extracurricular activity. Here at UD, Mya is a marketing major which she might use in becoming a label designer, but it seems that her real passion is traveling. She would love to experience the world and be a travel blogger to make a living since she has already traveled quite a bit.
During our conversation Mya gave me the impression that she enjoys going with the flow and not worrying too much about the little things. She likes to think that everything happens for a reason and she prays when it turns 11:11. She knows her worth and how to detect people who aren’t there to fully support her and be there for her. It was very easy to make conversation with her and it felt like she was at ease in being herself straight off the bat. It is evident that she is comfortable with who she is and allowing others around her to be who they are as well.
Maddy
I see myself as a shy person, and having conversations with people that I don’t know is hard for me. However, Maddy made it easy to converse about our somewhat different lives.
Maddy grew up in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. She played Soccer and did Track in highschool, but decided against doing a sport in college. Her graduating class in highschool was around 130 people, almost four times less than mine. At home, she has two dogs, a Lab named Riley and a Lab-Shepherd-Mix named Shadow. Maddy also has an older sister who lives in Boston with her boyfriend who recently got a job there.
Maddy is a Public Policy major, and I would gladly trust her with making the right decisions in the future about regulatory measures taken in the government. Maddy had the choice to stay in her hometown and go to college in Kutztown, but she decided to come to Delaware to be more independent and get away from home, which is also something I can relate to. When Maddy graduates from the University of Delaware, she wants to have a job where she can travel.
Apart from the things Maddy told me about herself, I made some inferences about her of my own. As I was talking to her, she was shy at first, but when we started talking about home, and her dogs, and other things she was passionate about, she opened up. I came to know that she is a genuinely nice person and a great friend.
Lauren
When I met Lauren I perceived her as a very sweet, pretty and outgoing girl. Perhaps she may consider herself shy and hesitant but I didn’t think so. What really stood out to me is that Lauren was the first one to talk which made me feel welcomed and less reluctant to meet strangers on the first day of classes. As we were talking I learned many things, she is from Long Island, New York and that she is an Environmental Science Major and Business Minor, and lives on north campus. She also shared what she loves and what her life is like and was back in highschool.
Lauren dreams of working in some sort of makeup company where she could test design and create different beauty products. I can see her bringing her making in there and contributing her bright ideas. She also is an only child, but dreams of having a big family one day. Lauren shared her fun moments back in highschool when she was a flyer in cheer.
As Maddy mentioned before I do believe all things happen for a reason because I noticed that Lauren was in one of my other classes and she came to sit next to me. Her pleasing presence and warm smile is always welcome around me.
