To be sitting at my desk and staring at the white walls of my dorm room was a real treat(sarcasm implied). With only myself and my thoughts, I was unaccustomed to this type of downtime. My downtime would typically consist of me watching Tik Toks or scrolling through Instagram. It was challenging to determine the best way to be productive as I am not used to spending time away from the screens.
Throughout the fifteen minutes, I wasn’t sure what to do with myself. To collect all of the thoughts going on in my brain was nearly impossible. However, a few minutes in, I realized that I should utilize the time to relax and unwind. This greatly helped my antsiness and I temporarily forgot about the boatload of work I had to complete. After I relaxed, the time began to feel longer and longer. I was hoping that the alarm I had set on my phone for fifteen minutes would sound. When it finally did, I felt relieved that I could begin using my technology again. This speaks volumes to me because I realized that I could hardly go without screen time for fifteen minutes.
After doing this activity, I recognized that I did not utilize the time to the best of my ability. Society today is absorbed in technology and I believe that time away from the screen is necessary, but how long can we last away from technology?
