In these first weeks of the new semester, the only thing most people are interested in is if you are rushing. From girls complaining about 10 hour days in recruiting to the massive influx of Fraternities Instagram and Snapchat ads inviting you to meet the brothers. In just 15 minutes of sitting down and eating lunch with my friends, this is mostly the small talk I hear around me.

It makes sparking up a conversation very easy since most people are rushing but as someone who is on an athletic team the question of,” what Frat are you in ?” gets boring quick. last semester I was probably asked this question upwards of 40 times, sometimes at parties thrown by my team. The answer is usually snarky since I am well into the night.

I do see the appeal of a fraternity-a good group of welcoming guys that will help you in school, socials, and networking for jobs. But I’m glad I’m part of a team and don’t need to go through the intense rushing. Walking up to pencader I am hit with the voices of hundreds of girls talking or chanting a song, after 30 minutes of talking I’m ready to go back to my dorm and watch tv. Any girl who can do 12 hours of that deserves whatever sorority they want. Guys have to go to countless social events to make good impressions and if they get a bid have to go through ruthless pledging, something not talked about for a reason.
