Using the fly on the wall tactic, I observed people on the College Avenue bus for 15 minutes. I had decided to use the location of the bus because it’s full of people from all walks of life. The most intriguing aspect of this is foreigners and friend groups.
I find the foreign-exchange students interactions very intriguing. I have no idea what they’re talking about, but it’s very interesting watching their body movements and actions. They tend to sit across from each other on the bus and speak back-and-forth flaring their arms. I sat next to one of them and glanced at their phone. The wording was in a different language so I could not tell exactly what they were looking at, but it was some type of website.
The friend group I had observed on the bus was two girls. They gossiped about their sorority bids they had gotten. Both of the girls seemed to be very excited and full of positive news. They were both dressed very stylishly like they had just come from a recruiting event. Both had the newest iPhone in their hands as they waited to exit the bus at their stop. They sat very close to one another and didn’t stray from each other after getting off the bus.
Watching both of these groups interact I felt entertained. Normally on the bus I like to scroll through social media, but it was very interesting listening to two different conversations. It shows what other people are experiencing on campus.
