I chose to interview people about the current state of the economy. This offers plenty of questions and provides for some very interesting responses. I first interviewed my roommate, he stated that he thinks this market crash was due to the media and their role in the Coronavirus. “I do not feel that the Coronavirus is a large threat to our country” he states, showing his belief that this is all over hyped and there is not much real concern. My suitemate believes that although the market crashed as quickly as it did, he believes that it will rise again and he has adopted Warren Buffet’s strategy. “Be greedy when others are fearful” he says, quoting Warren Buffet. He feels that this crash is a great time to invest and is not concerned about how this will affect our country in the long run.
Many took my questions and began talking about the Coronavirus and how it has been affecting out country. My friends from next door said that they believe even though the fatality rate is low, they still consider it a very dangerous virus. “They are not protecting us by sending us home, it is to protect other people” one said, referring to the University action. They do feel that it is only a matter of time before we get sent home and they are excited for easier classes. It also seems to be the general feeling that student do not want to leave campus, we came for the college experience and are about to lose an entire semester due to the Coronavirus.
My final interviewee did not know how badly the market crashed and this seemed to worry her. She feared that the Coronavirus is putting our country into hysterics and people are unable to see the reality of how strong our healthcare system is. It is interesting to see that most people agree, the media has put us into hysterics without delivering the proper information.
