Being a business major, I enjoy discussing topics that involve the economy. My man ran while thinking about all the possibilities that I could have asked each person. I wanted to ask a relevant question but a question that would bring curiosity to their minds. I like to learn and understand what is going on in the world. Ever since I’ve been at college it is a little difficult to reach the news on a TV since I do not have a TV in my room. My question that I asked 5 people was, “what do you think would happen if everyone had the same amount of money?”.
I first asked myself this question, even though I made up this question myself, I thought of so many different scenarios. I thought about what people would buy and if there would even be a social status since If people had the same amount of money. Then I thought about what kind of houses people would live in; I assumed that depending on the size of their family determines the size of their house. As I thought of so many more different scenarios, I really wanted to hear other people’s responses and opinions on my question
After asking myself this question I went to ask my good friend Katie and she said, “my dad would never try in his job if he knew his job would yield the same amount of money whether or not he tried.” I took this quote into strong consideration and it’s really devastating to look at it that way since people do go through a lot of school and hard work to become very successful. People in the work field would not have the same drives and passions if they all made and had the same amount of money.
The next three people that I asked this question to, they said similar things to what Katie said before. However, my neighbor Jack explained it in a good yet interesting way. Jack explained it as, “a good looking icing but an awful tasting cake.” This is an interesting way to think about it because, at first you think people having the same amount of money would be great, but once your economy actually put this into effect, everything will go down hill. One of the last people I interviewed agreed with Jack but he also shared his input on this topic and stated, “ everyone would want the easiest job since no one would have to try, no one would want to work.”
After asking myself and five other people this question, I decided that we all came to a conclusion that it would not work in today’s society when they are other options to make citizens and lives successful and happy.
