I can always tell when I hear that bell,
You’ll be coming around the corner.
You’ve been shedding quite a lot I can tell
Mom hates seeing your loose fur, I’d better go warn her.
No matter if you’re outside or in,
You’re welcome next to me.
I’ll take what I can get
Knowing you’ll rarely come for free.
There are times when I can’t find you
So I’ll go out searching for awhile.
Just when I think my chances are through,
The sound of you scratching the door gives me a smile.
I’m itching and scratching seconds after contact,
Wondering if your company is really worth all this pain.
Finally you leave and end my allergy attack,
But a stronger bond with you is what I gain.
No matter if you’re outside or in,
You’re welcome next to me.
Just don’t get offended
When I rustle the sheets.
Because we both know when it’s time to go,
So I can feed you, and you can grow.

Michael,
This poem was so heartwarming and it is clearly evident how much you enjoy spending time with/appreciate your pet! I really like the 3 lines of your poem starting with “The sound” and ending with “all this pain”. Through your writing, you are able to showcase that there are definitely some challenges you face by having a pet, however the bond you have is worth experiencing all of those challenges, and I think that is really admirable! Lastly, I really liked your title and its relation to your poem and how you actually stated it in one of your lines! Nice job!!

Michael,
I really enjoyed your poem and appreciate how you dedicated it to your pet. I related and smiled at the line “finally you leave and end my allergy attack, but a stronger bond with you is what I gain”. I am allergic to cats but I love their company and its worth all the allergies! I liked how I could really see each phrase in my mind. Overall, this poem demonstrated to me your strong bond with your pet.
