Easter day was not the same this year. Usually, I would be getting up at 10:30 AM, putting makeup on and wearing my best clothes in my closet to try and outdo my fashion-designer cousin. We would be sitting around the TV at my aunt’s house waiting for her to serve the spiral ham, roast beef, and mashed potatoes. This year, my washing machine set on fire and we had a zoom call with family that I haven’t seen since last year and I had about 7 fights with my mom about her screaming at her computer because everyone was talking all at once. But there was one ray of light.
We heard a noise at the front door and our doorbell camera alerted us that there was a person at the front door. My mom goes to open the front door and there is a flower pot on our steps. It was wrapped in yellow plastic and had clear cellophane. We turned the flower pot around and saw it had a card attached. “Happy Easter, Love the Pissi’s”. That’s where we would be today. And it made the day that much better. We sat down for dinner and the plant was sitting at the end of the table. It was a Daffodil plant. I thought it was Lily. Either way, it was beautiful and it made our day. I wouldn’t have guessed that, after fighting all day, a Daffodil plant would show up on our steps to make everything better.
I related to what you said about Easter being different this year. I usually am scrambling trying to look my best to impress the family, but this year I had stayed in sweatpants and a big sweatshirt and called it a day. I loved the line, ” But there was one ray of light.”. For some reason, just reading the line made me smile and think of all the positive things I do have in my life and how the tiniest gesture can make someones day.

This post does a great job at showing how a little nature can make any situation seem better. And with everything going on in the world, it is good to use your story as a lesson. I enjoyed the line, “But there was one ray of light.” This is a powerful statement and in my mind I imagine this line in color, while the rest of the piece in black and white.
