I walk in my backyard everyday. Whether it be to walk my dog, or simply just get fresh air. I find my little row of trees in my backyard to be like a barrier to the things further out in the world. As long as I have not yet crossed that barrier, I am still safe in my home space. But have I ever taken the time to look at the true beauty of the small area of trees, bushes, and flowers that settle in my backyard? No. And especially with everything going on in the world, that should not be the case. This assignment allowed me to open up my eyes and take a deeper look at the world around me. With a little searching and researching on the internet, I learned that I have a whole bunch of Phlox flowers growing in my backyard. They are pretty, dainty little flowers. Small, white, with a ring of baby pink. I am surprised such a beautiful, natural part of the world could slip my attention even when it was right in front of me. I guess that happens more than we would like realistically. I aim to better myself by taking those extra moments to really notice the beauty of nature, because it is truly a gift.

I really like your sentence, “I am surprised such a beautiful, natural part of the world could slip my attention even when it was right in front of me.” It is the best feeling when you actually realize the beauty of certain things. I also really like your picture. The Phlox flower is a really beautiful flower.

I really like your sentence “I am surprised such a beautiful, natural part of the world could slip my attention even when it was right in front of me.” We take advantage of the beautiful things that seem to be right in front of our faces. I also like how professional your picture looks.

The line “I am surprised such a beautiful, natural part of the world could slip my attention even when it was right in front of me” was very relatable. I too found myself missing out on some beautiful things in front of me. I agree that this assignment was very eye opening. “I aim to better myself by taking those extra moments to really notice the beauty of nature, because it is truly a gift.” I liked how you compared nature to a gift. I think some people take it for granted just like they do gifts. It fit very well with my interpretation of your writing.

Following up with the comments above, I enjoyed reading this piece. The reason why I enjoyed this is because as you were talking a walk in your backyard, you found this flower. You did some research behind it and learned so many things. And eventually found out that it is so much more than a flower. Good Work!

Really well written. I like the sentences “I find my little row of trees in my backyard to be like a barrier to the things further out in the world. As long as I have not yet crossed that barrier, I am still safe in my home space. ” Its nice that you recognize the flowers in your backyard as a barrier and reminder to not cross the barrier in order to stay safe. I liked how your title is also “Unknown Beauty” because you were unaware of the beauty you had right in your backyard.
