Hey dad,
Thought I’d give you an update on how life has been over these past 20 years. Well for starters, we moved to America a few years after you left. Spent time in New Jersey with Aunt Beccy for a bit before mom decided that we would be better off in Delaware. All three of your kids have done incredibly well in life since you’ve left. Nancy’s a computer scientist somewhere in Missouri right now, Earl’s finishing up his first year of med school at Thomas Jefferson, and I’m almost done my second year at the University of Delaware. After starting out as a statistics major, I decided that I would switch up to actuarial science. I just felt like it fit me better. After I switched, mom told me about how you got your degree in statistics and about your human calculator abilities so I kinda figured maybe that’s where I get my affinity for math. Like father, like son, huh? Oh! I also met Dr. Okine sometime last spring! Mom told me about how your best friend actually worked at the university so I figured I’d hunt around and find him. We talked for an entire afternoon and he told me so much about you. Some things that I DEFINITELY didn’t expect, but it was all great to hear. Everyone still misses you so much. Really does suck that I never got the chance to really meet you, but I guess things happen for a reason. Wherever you are, I hope things are great for you. Love you so much.

I thought this letter packed a very powerful punch. From top to bottom the word choice and sentence structure was very pristine. “All three of your kids have done incredibly well in life since you’ve left.” this sentence stood out to me. It was very positive and highlighted your guys strengths and how you have prospered in a time where you could have easily fallen. Lastly how you ended with “I love you” I like the feeling it left me as reader with.

This was an amazing letter to read. It had a lot of meaning behind it and I can feel the emotion in these sentences. One sentence that I really liked was, “Really does suck that I never got the chance to really meet you, but I guess things happen for a reason.” I do believe that everything does happen for a reason and everything that went on in your life, shaped you into the person you are today.

The letter spoke great meaning through your powerful sentences and thoughts. I enjoyed reading about how successful you and your sibling have become, and your need to share this with your father. I also liked the sentence, “Like father, like son, huh?” It shows how you have connected pieces of your life with the stories you have been told about your father. This was a very passionate, well written piece.
