What About the Future?
Life as we know it is scary. We sit around all day wondering what is going to happen next. Other than that we stay at home, watch the stock market fluctuate every hour, watch people lose their jobs, and watch the world turn a bit more crazy. This is something that has not happened to this world in a while and living through this is something that will never be forgotten.
Looking into the future this will change many things, but how much? Will we be able to go to the movies again? Will we be able to have family over for any type of get togethers where we can all be in close proximity or even hug? They’re so many different types of questions that we don’t question until the everyday activities that we do are wanted to be done. The Healthline news stated that, “ We’ll have to get used to social distancing over the next one to two years.” Meaning that this is our new normal is going to cinture like this for over the next following years. This breaks my heart and everyone else’s heart because this is holding back peoples futures. No one can guess what is going to happen but all we can do is practice social distancing and continue to pray for better days.
Even while we sit around and wait for this to be over, we can either sit around all day or we can make small or big changes to our lives. Whether it’s donating old clothes or planting a garden in our backyard, all of these things only make the world a better place. This can be related to the social distancing aspect of this. Since we are not going out too much anymore, it is helping the environment in ways we did not even realize. The Earth Observatory gave recent pollution results from China and it shows that there has been a decrease in nitrogen dioxide throughout the country. However, “ satellites found decreases in one air pollutant, but that doesn’t mean the air is free of all pollution.” (Patel). China’s pollution is decreasing which means that other countries are as well. This is because a lot of people have to work from home, shopping malls are closed and other non essential businesses are closed as well. Even though this is temporary, this is a step in the right direction for helping our communities. China has also reported in the Earth Observatory that “coal and oil industries have dropped, so carbon dioxide have also decreased.” More and more of these reports have been published as the social distancing continues.
What about the future? Will it forever continue to be like this? Will this virus come back stronger and kill more of the population? The endless questions will forever be unanswered until something drastic happens. For example, when a vaccine comes out, will everyone have to be required to get it and how long will it take if everyone has to receive it? The end of this pandemic is scary because the final damages may be worse than expected. Thankfully for the recent technological changes in the past decade, scientists have “drastically shortened the time it takes to develop a vaccine after a new virus emerges” (Radcliffe). As humans, our jobs are to wait and keep social distancing. Even though the economy is falling apart, hopefully we as citizens of this Earth can come back stronger, more motivated, more healthy and overall live in a better place.
