This will go down as one of the most unique semesters that every college and university ever had. Who would of thought that a respiratory virus would completely cripple the world? Certainly I didn’t. But rather than look at what went horribly wrong, its time to look at what went right and what we learned through this expereince.
When I ask myself what I learned this semester I immediately think of not taking anything for granted. Whether that is being at college, the family business, or even the simple act of walking into a Starbucks. You realize how much everything in your life means to you when it is all suddenly ripped out from underneath you. Lately I often find my self stopping in my the middle of my steps to take a look around me. By taking the time to admire whats going on around me rather than just rushing from point A to B, I am noticing things that were never apparent. Like how the picture on my wall is uneven. Or how the clock in the kitchen is an hour behind the actual time.
Taking the time to look around you gives you a sense of what is rather than what ought to be. In our busy lives we are constantly thinking about the future, an hour from now or even years from now. Always thinking about the future is good. You want to plan and make sure you are on track so you can maximize your life. But if you fail to enjoy the moment you will look back many years from now and say something my grandma always says “Where did all these years go?”. Don’t just look at life as years but rather days. Live each day doing what you love and spending time with the people you love cause one day it will all be over.
So, when I ask myself what I learned this semester the answer is very simple. I learned not to take life for granted. In order to live your life to the fullest you must look around you and notice the small details. It is the small details in your life that help make your full story.

I loved the honesty and realness that was conveyed through your post. You are right, when we are so busy we often fail to appreciate what we have in the present and are only looking towards the future. This pandemic has also taught me the important of appreciating the “little” things… and having those little things ripped away from you instantly (such as walking into Starbucks) makes you appreciate the present even more. I especially admired this statement in your post: “Don’t just look at life as years but rather days. Live each day doing what you love and spending time with the people you love cause one day it will all be over.” This is a really powerful message that both myself and I am sure many of our peers will take away from your post. Thank you for teaching an amazing message!

I really like the sentences, “I am noticing things that were never apparent. Like how the picture on my wall is uneven. Or how the clock in the kitchen is an hour behind the actual time.” It is crazy how this virus is making us realize some unordinary things. I also really like this sentence in your conclusion, ” In order to live your life to the fullest you must look around you and notice the small details.” This sentence really brings everything together, and it is very inspirational.
