Dear Dad,
Thank you.
When seeing my English assignment about writing a letter to someone, I was stuck and unsure of who to write to or even what I would write about. But then you come into my room with an iced coffee you made for me, without any requests, and said with a big smile on your face, “Here’s a little something to help you with your school work.”.
You have been my number one fan since I was born. You showed up to every one of my sporting events, even if that meant leaving work early to see me play. You also spent endless early Saturday mornings driving me to travel tournaments and dealing with me being a cranky, 12 year old girl in the car. My favorite thing about all this was not the fact of you being at every game or the rides you had given me, it is what happened after the game. After every tournament I had, you would look up the best ice cream place in the random town or city we were in that weekend, and would take me there. We would sit and talk about school and my friends and not even mention anything about the games that just happened.
I don’t remember the scores of the game or what happened during, I remember the irreplaceable memories I made with you, and that is something I will forever be grateful for and never forgot.
Thank you Dad for being such a selfless person and giving me so many happy childhood memories.

Katie,
Your letter brought me nearly to tears! The language you used and the way you described those experiences with your dad was really powerful and portrayed your appreciation for him. You are very lucky to have such a special relationship with your dad and I am sure he feels the same way about you! I like how you mentioned that you didn’t remember the outcome of your games, but only the unforgettable times you had with your dad! That is really wonderful, and I truly enjoyed your letter!

I teared up reading this letter. I participated in sports for a long time, and it meant a lot when my parents and grandparents showed up to my races and games. Your description of getting ice cream with your dad made me think of my own memories with my loved ones surrounding sports. The first paragraph of your letter is so sweet.

Your letter was very heartfelt and emotional. It was great to hear about how close you and your father are. I love that he made you an ice coffee to help with school work. It’s like having your own personal Starbucks lol. I really appreciated the flow of your writing. It was easy to read and flowed very nicely.
